Default 351 Drivetrain

Hey, from what ive found the 351 will beat the T-5 and the posi rear end up pretty quick. What can i do to solve that, rebuild the T-5 with better parts or what? Any imput would be great, thanks.

Ok, what if I could afford to buy a whole new tranny now, would a rebuild on the t-5 with better parts do for awhile?

I honestly feel that the way the car is driven will have more to do with how long the T5 will last, than the power output of the motor.
I have at least 225k miles on my factory T5.
The last 25k of which were with a 408w stroker.

Only in the last several thousand miles has the trans started to show signs of wear.

A friend of mine ran a 4cyl T5 in his built 302 for nearly a year. He had a replacement in the garage, so he tried to bust the 4 banger trans. He never did.
After he pulled it for a good rebuilt unit, I bought the weak 4cyl T5 for a school rebuild project.
When I pulled that trans apart, it looked to be in great shape. Even my Prof. was impressed.

It is my opinion that the T5 power ratings are grossly understated.

if you miss gears etc, it will were fast.

Just with a good headswap, my motor mounts cracked, torque boxes warped, with a 408, that some serious power for a lightweight car, Id do the tranny anyway, unless you want to do it later and drive home stuck and slipping like I did 10 mph

Well it seems im getting mixed opinions, right now i just can afford a new tranny, in 5 or 6 months i could, so for now, will a rebuild with better parts on the t-5 do? Im not the type who beats on the car either.
