Default mac fresh air

anyone running thenew mac system where you have to pull the chrome plate off to remove/install the air cleaner ? is this a stupid set up or is it me ? this is the new and improved one ? my other car has one that just takes one person to remove/install, the new one you have to remove 4 screws + the clamp instead of just a clamp
just wondering what your thought are ? mine well i think it sucks !

A pic would be nice. I know I personally don't have the slightest clue what you are talking about.

I've got the fenderwell Mac CAI, but apparently the older one or something....all I have to do is reach up in front of the front wheel and unscrew the clamp for the filter.

that is what my 82 has with the cobra and efi
the 93 i'm fixing where the tube goes through the chrome plate that replaces the air box is what i'm whining about , the new one instead of having that rubber ring now the air cleaner its self has the ring made on it and now you have to unbolt that sqaure chrome plate to remove the air clean, now the clamp is under the hood but you still have to go underneath to remove the filter, before i was just one clamp and done, now its 4 screws remove the elbow & clamp and go under the car, seem like a dumb idea to me ? it will just about take 2 people to install it now ................ they made it twice as hard to do now ...................

I think i have the same kit your talking about. With mine u can leave the square plate on there and just feed the filter up throught the bottom, like u said, and then reach through the opening there and mount it up the rest of the way. There is also a round plug/cap thing u can pop out the fenwell and your can get your hand through there, it helps alot.

Dont forget to oil the filter!

yeah my old one is that way, i just do it from the bottom side, this new one you can't do it that way, it won't fit through the factory hole in the inner fender without smashing it down some and kinda pushing it though, my old style was 100 % easier to work with
yeah i have a big can of k & n oil i use, all my cars have the k&n style filters, i wash my with hot water and liquid dawn in the sink and
they look new again before reoiling them
