Questions about 1983 5.0 convertible
My uncle has a 1983 5.0 convertable. i havent seen it for a few years as he lives in VA Beach and i live in CT. He would be willing to sell it to me for $1,500. I know some things about cars (im only 16) because i allways work on all of our cars with my dad but im pretty new to mustangs. Can you guys give me some info and things i should know about it? My dad is very familiar with cars and all years of mustangs but i was just wondering what some people who own them have to think.
I have aim also if you wanna contact me that way:

mustangs are fun, but in my opinion.. get the right one 1st off.. i got in a big hurry and bought an automatic.. it is kinda boring and i feel like a d-bag shiftin it myself.. so get a coupe cus they look better and if u like em.. get a manual.. not tryin to be rude, but save up and get what u really want the 1st time around.. trust me.. but they are a great car!

RE: Questions about 1983 5.0 convertible
Id skip over an '83 because theyre carbureted, have lower hp than '86-'93's and the '83-'84's are by far the ugliest of the '79-'93's.
Also you couldnt pay me to buy a convertible.

As far as style goes, get what YOU like, not what other people like. Personally I like my vert for cruising around with the top down and enjoying the weather. If your looking more for a track duty car, a coupe is preferred because of its lighter weight and more rigid construction. Either way, look real close at the body for rust, bondo, and shotty repair work, regardless of Carb/EFI you'll learn how to tune and add on to either, they are both desireable for different reasons and you can convert the carb to mass air EFI if you'd like. Bottom line, if the cars in decent/good shape and the vert top works and has no rips, you wont loose any money on it, buying it for $1500. Even if you buy it and learn about the FOX body mustangs on this '83, make your mistakes with it, then sell it and buy another one to customize to your liking your still ahead. Most people get the 5.0L infection and end up owning several over time.... Good Luck

RE: Questions about 1983 5.0 convertible
I wouldn't buy the vert for a first car/daily driver. I'd buy it if you are looking to own 2 cars and only use the vert as a good weather cruiser with the top then go for it. Those things are VERY noisy and rackety with the top up. Plus they look like crap on the inside with the top up, unless you spend the money and have an inner liner installed. But it definitely can be a fun car, even with the carb. Very simple to add 25-50 hp with bolt ons, and pretty easy to work on. Plus if its a GT-350 (white with burgandy side stripes) its worth a little bit more.

check it for rust and check the door pins(open the door, lift it up see if there worn out) also make sure the tops decent if u dont have that much cash cause that will cost u 1000$ if its bad also do all the other mechanical checks leaks esp the rear main seal on the engine
