RE: tank install problems
theres a certain twist to get in back in the new tank between the baffles u have to twist it 360o perfectly you shouldnt have to force it, it took my brother a little while to figure mine out, my baffle was broken and the bracked that holds the fuel pump was broken sliding up and down my buddy tack welded the bracket back on(very dangerous) and we got my new tank for free north cali and we put my stuff back together

RE: tank install problems
This suggestion may be to late for some. But one option would be to remove the pump. Fab up, extend, the pick up so it will reach the bottom of the tank and use an in-line (FI of course) fuel pump that mounts externally.

RE: tank install problems
I never had issues like this either. I replaced my walbro 155 with a 255 and it slid right in like it was made for it. I did not install the 155 (bought it like that) but there was absolutely no signs of modification to the bracket or anything else. I can't help but think that the pump you got is not ideal (to say the least). Visa a walbro from a local speed shop and just see if it will fit any better. They should return the part as long as it has not obviously been installed. Interesting problem though.....

RE: tank install problems
We ran into the exact same problem....
A couple of years ago we repalced the pump assmb with a brand called Master from Autozone. When we upgraded to a better walbro, the pump itself wouldn't fit in the holder. The problem is that what you have is an aftermarket pump assembly and the new pump is meant to fit the factory ford holder.
We took a trip to pick n pull, got a ford holder and the new pump fit into it like a glove.
The aftermarket pump assembly we had looked identical to the one in your pic.
Good luck.
