Default Power steering for road racing

On the last couple of lapping days at a high speed road course, my power steering fluid was spitting out of the pressure release on the cap and smoking like mad on the headers. Since I use the car as a regular driver as well as a road courseracer, I am not keen on getting rid of the p/s completely. Is there a hi-po p/s pump available or better fluid that I can use to eliminate this problem. I think the stock pump just isn't upto the challenge ofcorners at 100mph.

I do the same thing with my car! I came up with a solution for it. I drilled a hole in the cap on the power steering pump and ran a 1/4 rubber hose up to a little resevoir that i made. I attached it to the plastic cover that covers the ignition stuff on the fender. Just make sure you run the hose into the bottom of the resevoir so when the fluid cools down again it will run back into the pump! Hope this helps. If you look in my pics you will see the rubber hose coming off the power steering pump! Not a great pic. If you want a better one let me know. Also dont forget to drill a hole in the top of the resevoir to so it will vent and allow fluid to go back out!

That's genius!! And so much easier than replacing the pump or going manual. If you could post a close up pic without too much bother that would be helpful so I can see what your resevoir is made from.
Thanks for the quick post.

I will have to post it when I get home. Unless your going with the power steering cooler? Mine is a cheap easy fix and keeps the fluid from pushing out the top! Let me know.

Uh, yeah. I don't know if I would consider your mod a "Fix".......band aid would be a more appropriate description. Summit and FRPP I believe, have what you need.Summit part # AGR-808102 high po pump.Your pump is working too hard and there is too much heat being generated. This will eventually cause damage to your pump and/or rack so I would be weary about longevity if this happens often. Besides a pump made for this type of usage, the next best option is a cooler. (and you should be able touse any aftermarket trans cooler with little modification if any)
