I need some info on my 89 LX 5.0
Alright i am looking for some bigger power. I right now have the 5.0 HO engine and all i have done to it is some mild head porting, some mild intake porting, bored .30 over and it has a bigger .512 lift cam. I was looking around the intakes and i heard alot about toss ups from the gt40 intakes from the explorers and the cobra intakes, i heard those were practically the same other then the gt being better. Then i heard it was better off going for a trick flow intake. help would be great.

With your setup a GT40 intake would probably be the best bet. But dont expect to get any HUGE gains from it. Your biggest gains would come from changing your heads to something along the lines of AFR 185's or some TFS Hi-ports (theyre not the twisted wedge). Then you would probably want a TFS intake setup.
Or better yet, ditch that crappy *** fuel injection get a victor jr. or super victor carb intake and a 650/700 double pumper. Going carbed would save you TONS of cash as you dont need to tune the ECU, you dont need injectors, TB, upper intake, etc.etc. Thats what I would do, but then again Im partial to carbs.

I'm running ported E7's, but wish I'd just gone w/ GT40's instead...
Anyway, have you done a full 2.5" exhaust yet? What about larger MAF and TB?
I'm running the Street Heat intake and like it, but the Eddy RPM intakes are good as well and give you more clearance to the valve covers.
The Explorerand Cobra intakes are almost identical, while the GT40 is tubular and flows the most of the 3. I would just get a used Street Heat on ebay for $250 and be done w/ it.

what would be some more advantages to going carbed and some disadvantages?
also if i switched to a carb would i still need to conver to mass air to get the best gains out of new heads and cam?

Ok yeah i have the 1 5/8 i think it is shorty headers with a offroad h pipe from jegs and its 2.5" and then at the end is just some flowmasters. i want to stay efi because of tunning problems. so the gt40 intake would be the best to go with along with the gt40 heads?

RE: I need some info on my 89 LX 5.0
you will save alot of money and it really isnt hard. you basically take out all of the stuff he listed and then you can sell it all for money to buy other things. basically all you need is the intake and the carb and then just a few things here and there unlike efi you need upper/lower intake,tb,maf, injectors etc. some of the disadvantages i have heard is like on cold days its hard to start... so you have to pump it and then you have to hope to not get it flooded then you have to tune it to the weather were efi does it for you.
