351 BLOCK...WHICH ONE???
Ok so the plan is a 408 stroker, thats hopefully making somewhere around 550 hp. I was planning on going with the DSS level 20 351 block...but i've been hearing some pretty bad things about the service and quality of their blocks, so i'm stuck again searching for a block that can handle that power....at around 1500 or so.
I was also looking into the process of cryo treating a block. Has any had any experience with something like this? I hear it makes the block a whole lot stronger.

RE: 351 BLOCK...WHICH ONE???
well see i was thinking about a stock 351 windsor block...but everything else in the motor is gonna be new. so i dont really wanna take chances on pushing a stock block to its limit. id rather play it safe with something stronger...only problem is im on a budget like everyone else lol i have about 1500 to spend on a block. just wondering the best block i can get for the money

i believe i heard somewhere the stock crank is good for 700hp so you can save some money there, and if you just get a stock block rather than an after market one than you will save alot of money right there....you have 1500 for the whole build up or just the block....b/c i think you will need more than that for a build up

RE: 351 BLOCK...WHICH ONE???
The strongest Ford 351w blocks are the 1969 blocks.
The main webs were thicker and there was a higher nickel content.
From '70-'74 is the next best option. The main webs were a little thinner, but I am unsure about nickel content.
This info is difficult to verify.
After that most 351w blocks are just about the same.
Many folks suggest the 351w block can handle 600-700hp, but they never say if that is a 69 block or a 84 block.
It should be fairly easy to find a 70-74 block in decent shape, but the 69 block will take some digging.
I managed to find a 74 block for my 408w build.
The info on my 351w swap page on my website should have more detailed info...
Hope that helps,
jason
