I would def go with a 89 or later. Mass air. I personally prefer the 89s for the following reasons:
Tilt Steering
No map pockets on the sides
Arm Rest (I think it was 90 when the took it off, but might be 91)
Locking gas door(Some don't like it, but I have had some bad ex GF's who know I love my car)
