Default No mufflers

I have a question about my exhaust on my 88 stang. I have the stock headers going into a x-pipe and from there my exhaust goes out the back of the stang with no mufflers. It sounds really good and it has a low rumble that I really likebut I'm worried about maybe causing some damage considering I don't have much backpressure.Should I worry? It runs really good with absolutely no problems. Also what do you guys think about that additive you put in your antifreeze called Water Wetter? Does it really do what it says and lower the temp. of your radiater by 20 degrees? Thanxs in advance for your help.

I'm curious about both questions too. In terms of exhaust, I know that on carbureted engines, if you have no mufflers, and stock carb jetting, the motor will run lean. I doubt that happens with EFI though. I also once heard...and this may be a myth, as it sounds silly...that not running mufflers allows cold air to rush back up the exhaust when you turn the car off, and warps your exhaust valves. LOL. Hopefully someone will chime in and set us straight.

Youre not causing any damage with no mufflers. If your exhaust was too short, or open shorties you can burn a valve up that way.
As for water wtter, Ive heard that it works, changes surface tension of water or something like that.

Is that true? I'm not doubting you, but am very curious as to how that could happen.

Ahh. 3k posts! That was my goal, and now I'm done with this forum. Take care everyone.

Hey man thats just your opinion--my stang DOES NOT sound like ***. I sure as hell wouldn't be driving it around if it sounded like s**t!! I'm sure if you heard the way it sounded you wouldn't think so! By the way what does "***" sound like?

i ran open shorties for about 10 miles bad idea now i have valve float like a mother past 5k so i cant get full out of my car you are perfectly fine wtih your exhaust the way it is dont worry about anything happening its not short enough to have the cold air rush back in and warp anything you are good to go

Like previously stated nothing is going to happen. If you had just open shorties then you might burn your exhaust valves up but you should be fine. You would probably notice better performance if you put your mufflers back on though.

to be honest with you.. I have no clue... it was something my boss told me when i was driving my car around the shop with just my shorties and X pipe. He said (dont rev it up, you can bend a pushrod because you dont have enough backpressure. I believed him because hes a Master tech, fully certified ASE technician with 37 years experience.
