I thought that if you spray belt dressing on a serpentine belt, can ruin the belt.
it did on my jeep cherokee...sorta slowly peeled the center out of the belt on the smooth side.

Its ok to run water on the alt and smog pump? Isnt that bad for bearings?

Agree with adder on this one. take less then 5 mins to find the problem and get everything back together. Take the belt off, and spin the pullies by hand to find the one that is stickey or hard to turn. Other then the crank, if you can turn that you arm is to big to get into the engine bay anyway. If that doesn;t do it then spray so wd-40 on the back to each pully while it is running(The ones you can get to) and see if that changes/stops the sound.

Use the gatorback belt by goodyear...Its the best beltout there, autozone carries them...

The ole H2O trick works every time...just don't accidenly spray the fan and drown out your ignition.

i had that little squeak, thought it was the belt... let it go, then ended up on the side of the road in the middle of the night cuz the smog pump ****ed up.... take the belt off, check each pully for any play at all, if there is some replace that accesory

Alright i just put the pump on and its ****in 2 times louder than the one i just took off. WTF!!! you guys should hear this thing.....Im embaressed to take it out. There was a sticker on it that said to allow it 500 miles for no noise but ****, has anybody delt with this? Its from autozone.

ur belt may be slightly larger than needed, i had the same prob when i had hte a/c on it would squeak anytime i got it above 2000 so i put on a smaller belt and it stopped

Hello. I have a stang 02 and is making a noise like that.
I took the belt off and the noise is still there so im thinking is the crank pulley.
When the car is cold the noise is louder and after a few mins the noise is not that loud or goes away.
Any ideas
