Hi, I'm a newbe, but an interia switch cuts the fuel pump out from the impact if there is a wreck.

Its maybe 2"x3" and is behind the drivers side trim panelin the hatch. The switch itself is held in by 2 small screws which youll need a socket to remove. I dont remember the size... 1/4" ?. It has one grey plug connection on the bottom.

Whenthe switch isplugged inwith the red button on topdown it allowscurrent to the pump to run. If the switch is either unplugged or the red button is up the switchwill go dead and in turn stops any current to the pump. If its up, just reset the switch by pushing the button backdown.

Remember, before opening ANY fuel lines youll need to unplug the switch, start the car and let it idle till it dies. Or hit the switch hard enough so the lil red button is up but they dont always do that.I find just unplugging it is easier.

Thats pretty much it i think.

you can pop the button up with a small screw driver

or bop it with your hand

How about this. You could lift the button, cut the wires and then if youre still not sure, bop it with your hand just to make sure its dead.

Works every time.

had a ford escort one time...bombing sdown down a logging road...high centered adn abbruptly stopped...triggered that damn switch...took us 30 mins to figure it out.

I wouldn't recommend bypassing it though...if you get pinned in wreck you want that fuel pump to be shut off.

I had an old Ford Probe GL that i was messing around in and hit this huge bump iin the road.. sent my car airborne and when I came down my subwoofer box went through my hatch window. when i got the car stopped, I couldnt get it running again. This happened in like january.. So i was freezing my nuts off for about an hour before i was told by my mothers boyfriend about the inertia switch... i popped that bad boy back in and drove home with no back window.. THAT was a cold drive!
