Cheap decent shortblock or crate motors

RE: Cheap decent shortblock or crate motors
I don't even think it's more expensive than mail order if you are comparing apples to apples. Too many mail order motors just use junk parts to make the part more attractive to the buyer. That's probably what they have to do for their target customer. People wanting quality parts generally order their own stuff and have their machinist do it all.
That forged 331 shortblock looks like a decent deal. But if I can get you the same forged rotating assembly w/ rings and bearings, flexplate and balancer for under $1400 shipped to your door, why can't you get a block, the machine work and assembly for under $1100? That would seem to be pretty easy to me. And don't forget you're probably going to pay in the neighborhood of $200 to ship that shortblock. I think you could probably save around $500 bydoing the legwork yourself.
