There are locking tabs on the inside of each switch assembly. You have to press those in and pull outward(not forward) on the switch. Be careful of the connectors, sometimes wires pull out of these. If you force it, you will break it. Be very careful, take your time.

So they pull out towards doors, not towards me as i sit in the seat!?

Yes, just please be gentle, they do have to come towards you, but you have to move them towards the doors enough to clear the tabs.
