There should be only one gear in the tranny. Did you check the speedo cable to make sure it wasn't binding? It might just need a good greasing. Or it could be in the speedo itself.

new cable and i even pulled the cluster and drove down the street not even one turn on the cable. i was thimking you know how you change gears in the rear you need to get that little plastic gear ie. 3.55 to 4.11 so the gauge will read right. maybe its striped or not even there

Did you make sure the new cable is in the back of the speedo right? There is a gear inside the t5 on the tail shaft it self. You can feel it by putting your finger in there. if you think the cable is right, take it loose from the t5, have someone look at the speedo and spin the gear on the end of the cable wiht your hand and the speedo will move. if it dose it is in side the trans.

If the cable is not turning driving down the street, then it has to be the plastic gear in the trans or on the end of the cable.

there is a way you dont have to, but taking it out would be a hole lot easier. so pretty much if you want a speedo, trans needs to come out. ( if for sure the gear inside the trans is the problem)
