i suppose it could be the shaft or sending unit...i dont really know. I drove the car bout 20 miles from my house after warm up......then the pressure just stoped at idle. I want beating it and there was plenty of oil in it....so how do i check if its the sending unit or shaft.....or do i still have too drop the pan?
I have a similar problem. When the motor iscold the pressure is around 45-50psi. Once warmed up it drops to almost zero at idle, but goes up to around 25 when the rpms go up. I replaced the sending unit AND installed an autometer mechanical oil pressure gauge.
So, Ireplaced the oil pump only to have the same symptoms. Bearings are probably worn and the car still runs strong.I have ablock on the stand for a stroker.

My 89 I had in 1990 did the same thing. Ford mechanics said it was normal, beat it silly for 2 years with no problems.

I have a similar situtaion too, my oil pressure is fine when its cold and when its finally warms up at idle itll drop almost 1/4 of the gauge. It doesnt really do it when i have thicker oil in her, im runnin 5w-30 right now

i hate to jump on the band wagon but my motor is doing the same thing

not exactly dropping to zero oil pressure but it is decreasing as the car warms up. im running 10-30 cus i figured with the cold 10-40 would be too thick. guess i was wrong. i want to change it back but i know 10-40 would be too much and i dont want it sludging up.

i have a mechanical gauge too but its never been hooked up because i have no idea where the sending unit it. **** i am lazy...

you guys ever noticed it drops in the rain too? ive started my car in the rain a few times and noticed it was reading a line below normal. ive only had it drop all the way down once and it shot right to the top and then finaly settled itself out. hasnt done it since then... im telling u these ford gauges are posessed..
