I have an 89 GT...recently bought...and have been working at it but could use any advice on an issue im having. The car is hard to start not just cold, not just hot, anytime (takes a good bit of cranking) and when it does fire up...the car will not idle on its own...it takes about 3-4 restarts until it will idle on its own...then if the car is given any throttle it is somewhat hesitant to take it but does then when it falls back down towards idle it acts real rough and eratic but will straighten itself out in a matter of a few seconds...

...car is not running to its potential...car sat a few years...plan to do a fuel pressure test...i was thinking maybe fuel injectors?

...timing also crossed my mind but when it does idle straight...its real smooth like it should be...

...so im looking for any advice...

...please help...i want my car!!!...

if it take a while to start u might have a bad fuel pump theres a check valve(to keep fuel from draining back to the tank?) maybe try and turnthe key just to prime the pump 2-3 time see if it starts quicker

IMO sounds to me like fuel or ignition problems, whats the gas like in it, are the plugs good, cap and rotor?

tank was dropped...drained...fresh gas 93 octance with fuel injector cleaner ...new fuel filter as well...new spark plugs...wires...rotor and cap...not replaced.

what about the ignition. where you put the key in. theres a little while box mounted under the steering wheel. mine was loose and its hard to start...its not supposed to be loose but i kno that it would take 4-5 times of turning it over to make it start

Why the tank was down why didn't you change the fuel pump that could be bad ?Also I would finish the tune and get the timming checked and go from there....Good Luck!

its kinda an older car so maybe think about cleaning out the throttle body and the EGE i just used an old toothbrush or a hated family member and spray some carb cleaner and get to scrubin. i noticed a big differance in throttle respons and overall idle quality
