Default Suspension Parts, Please

Hi, I am in the process of building a 408 stroker with about 600hp. However, I don't want to waste any money on suspension parts if they are not needed. What suspension parts are a must to make this car hook<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">

Is this a full race car or gonna be your daily driver? The suspension (spring rates)on a drag car aren't suited for daily driving. However, on either type of car you need to start out with a solid foundation. Full length sub frame conectors are a must. Double adjustable upper control arms and an aftermarket lower control arm that is also adjustable will allow you to set up your pinion angle to maximize its moment arm. A set of adjustable shocks in the rear will also help(koni's, kyb's). With the torque you'll have, you will probably want to beef up your torque boxes also. Top it off with some drag radials and you be smokin them off the line.

I've run ten-teens with stock rear upper and lowers and stock front 5.0 suspension,a lot depends on what size and type of tires you are gonna run, with enough tire you don't need any traction devices. With junk radials it won't matter how much you spend on yoursuspension, you still won't be able to hook up 600hp.One of the best traction mods I have done is a Chassis Engineering rear sway bar,it made the best improvement, recently I installed aftermarket rear control arms and it didn't make any difference other than it feels tighter in the back.I do run a big(28x13.50-15 E.T. Streets)tire on the back with mini tubs so that helps a lot,you should weld in subframe conectors, the torque boxes are where the front of the lower control arm bolts into, they should be ok if you are running an automatic, they should be reinforced if you are running a stick. If you are going to run a stick I would reinforce the bracketswhere the upper control arms bolt to the body.

The problem your gonna run into with your car is that if its going to be run on the steet you don't neccessarily need all the racing parts BUT if your gonna be making close to 600 hp you WILL need those parts just to make the car fun to drive. Don't get me wrong its loads of fun to do burn outs, but with that amount of rotation force that you will have you'll be all over the road, if you don't have a well built and design suspension to plant all that power to the ground. The stock rear suspension is not desgined to handle that power. That is why i reccomend you do the modifications I listed. But like nostang said you'll need at least some drag radials to hook up.
