Default how much boost?

How much boost can a stock 5.0 block handle, and what are some cheap ways to strengthen the weakpoints? (A thicker metal head gasket comes to mind, but thats about all I can think of)

i would not worry about the Headgasket, keep the boost under 12psi and no worries. the 5.0 blocks are said to good upto 550 HP, however www.slowgt.com ran over that with no probs.

I've heard of a 12psi daily driver 90 GT. I would keep it around 8psi constant mabey turn it up to 10 if needed, just to be on the safe side.

Well my friend Wayne has an 89 with a turbo from a dodge cummings on it and he is seeing 20psi feeding into second gear.WOW.
thats a fun ride.We will see what it does Oct 1st at milan dragway for its maiden voyage.
Anyways the motor has stock pistons and crank and no girdle, just arp head bolts--thats it.By the way it's a coupe.

It has a B-303 cam
GT 40 heads
trick flow intake
full exhaust with flows
msd ignition
3.73 gears
4 point cage
and a stock 5 spd

What do you think it will run if it dont blow something up???

I would say that he would run easy in the 12's with that kind of boost. Has he run at the track before or is this his first time? Sounds like a sick car if you could get some pics i would love to see the car. As for how much the 302 can handle it can handle alot of boost i hear around 15 psi it is good for. But i hear more so good luck and Rye that car sounds sick cant wait to see what the car gets for a time.

I don't know much about how mustangs handle boost, but my friend has a 91 300zx twin turbo and runs 12's with only like 16 psi on a 3L engine, no drag suspension, no slicks. I would hope your friends stag would put that to shame. I don't know how realistic the claims are, but I read somewhere that a 5.0 with a 10 psi turbo kit puts out close to 500 rwhp on a stock motor. (kit includes 70 mm tb, 40(?) lb injectors, 235 l/h fuel pump i think, full exhaust and intake, a pretty big sidemount intercooler, and a 60mm turbo).

well you talking apples and orange....the stock block will take 15-16 psi for awhile I run 15.....what happen is the block splits...so if running more then I would recoomend a svo block.....4 bolt mains won't help...

The guys at work(roush)say that if he can control the car he should do high 10's on the first pass, but were hoping for 12's with nothing wrong ,not beating on it.
I'll get some pics that show the engine and when we made all the parts, tubes e.t.c. and post'em up
I'm worried about the clutch assy coming thru the floor board."I want to keep both feet".
Anyone want to watch this maiden voyage and is around lower michigan area?MILAN DRAGWAY.

Your welcome to join

How dependable is the car on 15 psi? And, are there any aftermarket cylinder sleeves for relatively cheap out there?

20 psi is alot. Now think of all those bad cars that run like 45psi. I couldn't imagine that. Poor rods []
