Default timing set at 4 degrees?!!?

I was going to adjust my timing today and found out it was set at 4 degrees... stock i know they come 10 degrees.... I asked a buddy of mine said whoever had the car before may have lowered it due to the cam?? I dont even know what cam is in the car.. The guy who sold it to me said .. Its a Stage 1.. YEAH numnuts but what kind?!!... I bumped it to 14.. Car is not registered or insured right now so im shiit outta luck to drive it so idk if it will ping... Can any of you guys think of why the timing would be set down to 4 degrees? my only mods are the stage 1 cam, bbk shorty headers, bbk CAI, bbk 65mm throttlebody.

4 degree's ? that must run like a civic. haha j/k. only reason to knock timing that low would be a crazy forced induction system, maybe a 200 shot of NOS or something.

The stage 1 cam is most likely the TFS Stage 1. The timing may have been retarded in order to help pass emissions, but 4* is pretty severe.....one would usually only back it off to 8* or so.

My $.02: Grab your balancer and make sure it hasn't spun and doesn't have any play. If it spun, it will show incorrect timing and you could make your motor go BOOM.

I've got the TFS stage 1 and I'm running 16 degrees of timing with 91 octane. I need to drive it some more, make sure it doesn't ping and I might bring it up to 17 or 18 degrees. Have you ran it yet to see if it's any faster?

I'm sure that it will be a lot faster. Even bumping the timing from 10 to 16 degrees (or more) results anywhere from a 10-20 rwhp gain from what I've seen.

Check the bolt that holds down the dizzy. Mine was a little loose and bumping it self forward and backwards............especially if someone has messed with it before.

Im suprised your not pinging as it is..... 16 on 91 is pretty high.
