Default 94 mustange intake leak common???

I have a 5.0 '94 mustang that I believe is leaking a small amount of coolant somewhere near the back of the intake. Someone told me that this was not too uncommon for this particular car. The car has 127,000 miles on it. The rear main seal has been leaking for the past year a little bit too, so I'm thinking about getting both fixed at the same time.

Has anyone else had problems with the intake on this year mustang?? Thanks.

Default RE: 94 mustange intake leak common???

I just tore my 94 apart and put it back together, and I'd say its pretty easy for the back of the lower intake manifold to leak. The lower intake manifold gaskets only cover the part of the manifold that sits on the heads. The rest of the manifold is sealed by about a 1/8 inch thick line of silicone such as permatex or another gasket maker. If the car has been taken apart is is possible that not enough silicone was used and it is leaking due to that, or just from the car running too hot it burned through the silicone. Either way taking the lower manifold off isn't really that big of a deal, you just got to make sure you torque it down right so you don't warp anything.
