MUSCLEHEADS....spend my money!!
I've got a 90 LX coupe 5.0 with 29K actual miles, drives tight as all get out, but I would like to spend some of my money that I have been so responsible with and beef this car up a bit. Eveyone I have talked to seems to have a different idea on what I should do. I have an interest in a stage II turbo kit, but what other mods am I going to be looking at doing (what would you suggest)? Is a turbo the way to go?

before you do ANY power adding... Suspension and gears. If you do plan on turbocharging the car, have an idea about how much power you would like to make... If you wanna get close to or above 500hp.. plan on buying a new block, because your stock block will find itself with a ..."split" personality

Why stay away from a turbo? [&:]
Anyway, IMO I would take that money that you saved up and buy another car. Keep that car stock man! One day, it will be worth tons of cash!

depending on the gears he has, and the kind of f/i he goes w. idk if gears are that biga deal. if there 2.73s yes get rid of them, but if he has stock 3.08s n makes big power, gears wouldnt be a huge deal. still not a bad idea tho. guess it all depends on the purpose of the car, n its use

I'm kinda in agreement w/ dimebag ^^^ in that turbos do better (for street app's, anyway) under load, so don't go too steep on the gears (3.55's max IMO).
I would definitely do your suspension/chassis stuff first. Well, gears first, ALWAYS, but then the suspension and chassis. Your power does nothing for you if you can't control it and get it to the ground.
Also, look at the Tech Sticky for first mods. There are a bunch you can do that are cheap or fairly inexpensive that will give you a little more GO.

Put in some 3.55 gears. Then do suspension work, struts, shocks, spring, control arms, subframe connectors etc. Your gonna do all those no matter what route you decide to go. If your serious about doing a turbo, then youd better have a good chunk of change. Id reccomend going with a Helion or HP kit, as there are a few people on here that have worked with them and had nothing but good things to say. Your average kit is gonna cost around 5 grand and id budget at least 7 grand. (not including suspension and gears) Also, depending on exactly how much power your trying to get, i would also look into a Heads/Cam/Intake setup, either pieced together or bought as a kit. They run around 2200. Depending on what your goals for power are and how much boost you plan on running you may need to get a new block. Anything over 450rwhp is pushing it on the stock block, and i wouldnt run more than 10psi. Check out this site for some good info on turbo's. http://www.turbomustangs.com/turbokitpage.php#top

Regardless of how you bump up the power, you will need better suspension/frame stiffening so you should do that. The rest is really a question of what you like. I'd pull the original eng/tranny and stash it, then drop a nice 351 in it but thats just me....
