Default I've been doing a little thinking

I have an oil leak coming from the bottom of my car andI can't pin point where. The either has 80,000 or 180,000 miles on it so I am thinking about doing a rebuild. The money is extremely tight so the entire top end will be reused for now. I am thinking of going with a 302 with high compression. Something in the 10/1 range. I am going to redo the top end when I get the money to do it so I am going to build the bottom end to match whatever head I decide to use. While doing this I am going to swap over to MAF. Any ideas on what route I should go with looking for a rebuild kit. In the end I would like to swish some 110 race gas into the tank and hit it with a 100-150 shot of nitrous. What company's should I look into for these kits?

If money is tight, why not just fix the leak? It's got to be coming from somewhere!

I figured this was a good reason to give it a rebuild. The leak is somewhere on the bottom, so I figured I would just pull the motor and give it a good clean up.

What I would do is just take the car to one of those crappy coin fed carwashes. Bring along some carb cleaner, and douse the hell out of the bottom, and the brush it. Then spray it clean with the high pressure hose. This way over the next couple days you should be able to tell where the leak is at.

Dont let anyone see you spraying that crap all over though.

Most likely the rear main seal, or could be the oil pan gasket, or both.

if money it tight then buy another block and build it when funds permit...as for the leak you can get some oil die to put in the oil to detect the leak
