Default tps voltage screwy

whether the car is on off or revving the tps is always reading 5.09volts from the green wire...isn't it suppose to be .97 with the car off and raise in volts as the car revs up? if so does that sound like a bad sensor or is something else causing it?

YOU don't test it with the car running dummy....you can just open the throttle with you hand to see how much voltage is has likely around 4.6 or so..get a new TPS..total volt on it's system is only 5.0 volts

Yeah, you check it w/ the key to ignition, but not running. And it's the black and green wires, IIRC.

I always check the base the idle voltage with the car running. Temperature and other factors can affect the voltage, so I just got in the habit of checking it with the engine running.

In order to check the sweep of the tps though, you will want to shut the car off [&:]

Also, the tps does not need to be set to exactly .998v.
As far as the computer knows, any thing between .6 or .7 through 1.1 or 1.2v indicates a properly functioning tps.
WOT is set as 2.7v over the base idle voltage.
Which means that WOT is not a set in stone voltage.

My TPS is set to .85, FYI. People always say to set it at .998, but anything between .80-1.0 should be optimal.

The DG/LG wire should have 5v with the connector unplugged. Plugged in, it should be near 1v. There should be a load capable ground on the BK/WH wire and a load capable (lights a light dimly) on the O/W wire. The O/W is your 5v VREF.

well using black as the negative the green wire and red wire both read 5.09 volts while the car was off and while the car was running and while revving it...it never changed
