Default *Update* Re-torque lower intake bolts? *Update*

Has anyone ever had to re-torque their lower intake manifold bolts for any reason? Are these liable to loosen over time? I'm talking about my stock intake, by the way. Thanks.

I had never had problems with mine backing out or breaking loose or anything.

Fair enough. At any rate, last night, I removed my upper intake and re-torqued the bolts to my lower. It was no small task, and mywig goes off to anyone who has changed their intake...let alone their heads. I did this to try to cure some pinging that I've been having. About half of the 12 bolts were considerably loose. While I had the upper off, I hit it with a whole can of carb/tb cleaner, as it was quite foul inside. Then I emptied another can of carb cleaner into the lower intake runners, which were equally filthy. I flooded the runners and open cylinders pretty good with the stuff, and then bolted it all back together.Needless to say, starting the car afterwards was interesting, to say the least. I drove the car briefly last night, and gave it a sound thrashing. It seems to run better overall, even though the computer is still pulling itself together. I didn't hear any pinging when I trounced the car; although it was nighttime, and not very warm outside. Then, in the middle of running the car pissless, I lost oil pressure. I shut the thing down immediately, and pulled to the side of the pitch-dark mountain road I was riding on. I whipped out a flashlight and popped the hood, and was relieved to see that my oil pressure sensor wired had popped off. I stuck it back on and went home. Anyway, I'll keep you guys posted on the effects as they unravel over the next week or so. Later.

Also, I recommend an oil separator to every 5.0 owner on here. Peering inside my intake was horrific.

A lot of what you are seeing is the results of the EGR.

Thanks, GTDan. I agree; although I could see pretty clearly which was oil and which was carbon from the EGR. No doubt, the EGR helps to bake the oil onto the insides of the intake though.
