how to bump timing?
hey guys i just wanted to see if anyone can help me with how to bump up my timing? would i need a timing light? just wanted to get the steps on how to do it, so i can bump it this weekend. (i know the part of starting around 18 and going down 1 degree if it pings)

startin out high in degrees is bad can detonate alot and chances to screw up//start about 10 and work up from there on a 5.0.//////yes do it right the firsttime use a light with a dial...

Use a timing light!
Basetiming from the factory should be at 10 deg advanced.Try 12 deg and go up from there. Some people have best results at 14, some at 16, etc. You just have to try different settings and test drive the car to seewhat works best for your combo/engine condition. Its unanimous, don't start high!
My '83 isset at the base 10deg, but Ichanged the timing tables with a tuner. Before the tuner, 15 deg worked best for my combo.
I bought the '89as-is witha chip that I didn't program,and I don't know whereit's set.
