Haha I had someone try to trade me their 97 mustang for my 94.. all I could think is... 5.0 vs 4.6... TONS easier putting mods on the 5.0 and feeling them. Told em hell no. I think Ford restricted their true power when they built them.

ORIGINAL: Ecstasy

only benefit 4.6's have over 5.0s is they sound better. and they're more recongized by fine chicks rofl.
I disagree with the first half of that. IMO a 5.0 with Prochamber or OR H and Borla, Bassani, or Magnaflow catback is pretty much as good as any modern-ish car get. But the Edges are definetly more recognized by chicks.

IMO Both motors are sexy.. just 5.0s are easier to mod

I've had both.. I really like the sound of a 4.6. You can spend a lot of money trying to make a 5.0 not sound like a truck. The 4.6 run very good to be such a small motor. The 5.0, like everyone else is saying, is cheaper to mod and that gives you things to look forward to. With a 4.6, it's trying to save up $1000 or so to gain a tenth.

I didn't try hard at all to make my 302 not sound like a truck. A truck with a 302 and the same exhaust is going to sound the same, you can't really beat around the bush. I like how the 4.6 sounds in the higher rpms, but most of the 4.6 guys on here say that they like the sound of the 5.0 over the 4.6. Anyways, 5.0 makes power a lot lower in the rpms, the 4.6 makes nice power up top. I think if you lined a sn 5.0 and a sn 4.6 up, both 5 spd, the 5.0 would win.

id like to see ford produce another 302 built like the double overhead cams in the 4.6, basically re-up the displacement with the new tech and put it in the new mustangs

The best 4.6 is the supercharged DOHC. This is in part due to the factory supercharger (nothing but a good thing) but the short blocks have manley h beam rods and forged pistons. Its tough as nails andtakes a total tard to blow up.I believe the rest are hypers, either that or cast. Its still a good motor, really only letting go when they are improperly built or over-revved. The DOHC head flows really well, but 99-04 they all had issues with cooling jackets being too small and allowing the exhaust valve guides (primarily on bank two) to overheat and wear excessively. I really wouldn't consider buying a 4 valve in this time period unless it got a bank two head when under warranty.
