edelbrock has 460 heads, and made 520 hp i think add a 150 shot a,d a decent susp...wwwwwwwwwwwwheeeeew.....not as much work as alotta folks that have never done it think...a 460 is heavier then a 302 period!!!!if ya ever lifter both you would know...but since ya said a 302 with iron heads is light allmost then a alum 460 heads on a bb..then that means ya never pulled and worked on a 460/302..no offense..500+juice= no prob with the weight.. a 408 with heads afr or edelbrock, wont get ya 500 hp and be real street freindly..not in a stock block and hold up...a 460 will take 600 hp and hold great in a stock block..

go with the big block only if you wan to run drag, just put your pony on a diet and remove anything unneeded, dont for get to stiffen the chasiss with maybe a 8 point cage and some subframe connectors will be neccessary, the hp on the big block is same as you can get with the small block, whats gonna twist your car into knots is the massive amount of torque that big block mill is gonna be spittin out...

the sound of a mustang running a bb 460with a good cam cruising town is so different, it just sets it apart from the crowd ,even with the extra weight it sure would be worth it. wish i had one.

i work at a ford dealership and we can order ford racing parts. i could get the parts for cost, and they make everything to swap it over plus for what it cost to stroke a 351 to a 408 you could stroke a 460 to a 557. what would be better than a 557 in a mustang?
