How many miles on new engine before racing it?
I was just wondering how many miles you think should be put on a new motor before racing it? should they be street miles? highway? both? or should the car be pushed on a little bit?

yes, push the engine during break in
stay away from constant rpm's like highway cruising and stay away
from low rpm high load, like flooring it in too high a gear.
make sure engine is warmed up good with 2,000 rpm before each
drive, keep the drives relatively short but aggressive and let it cool down
all the way after each drive.
do this for first 20-50 miles or so over about 4-5 test drives and you should be good to go.

racing it i would wait 500 miles. thats when you should do your first oil change i wouldnt push it too high up in the rpm's not very good for a new engine

my family and I have been rebuilding engines for years and usually after a complete rebuilt we break in the car by doingwhat we callthe"break in procedure." Take her on a traffic free street accelerate up to 30 and floor it until you hit 50 back off the gas and let it decelerate back to 30 with out using the brake, then smash it back to 50, repeat 5 or so times. I usually recommend to take it easy on the engine for the first 2k miles and by all means change that oil at 500. Mobile 1 full synthetic is your friend.
