I put a brand new one on the stock block when I got it, drove it for 5 months and then put that same one on this block when I put it in. It also has the timing chain cover off the orignal motor

here is what I think is happening. your loosing coolant at a slow rate maybe at higher rpm's or certain engine temp. Once the coolant level gets low enough you begin to over heat of course. Here is what you need to do. Run a pressure test on your rad with the engine hot and running.

thats a good possibility, i topped it off this morning and beat the sh*t out of it with no problems. I do check the coolant on occasion to see i its full and it seems to be when I do check it, I just dont check it ALL the time. I do turn it 6500rpms very often... maybe the radiator isnt up for those RPMs?

Id get a some UV rad die and search with a UV light. If your loosing pressure/coolant and cant find the leak it probably internal. have you replaced and gaskets where coolant travels?

I have no poblem makking power over 5500. this engine has only been in the car for about 2 months now with all new gaskets. there is no oil in the antifreeze or viseversa. I guess I need to get the dye
