Default HO alternator?

I have been thinking about upgrading to a little higher output alt for the system that I would like to put in in the future, as well as since the stock one has 100K and probably not alot left on it. Anyone have any brands they recommend or places to get them?

get a 200 amp - 3G unit off ebay for about $130
there are 130-160amp - 3G's for even less

upgrade the supply cabel and all the grounds and have to grind on the bracket
a little to make it fit.
spend about another $60 in quality stereo grade 4g power cable and connectors.

super easy to do the minor wiring mods.

I went with the powermaster 160a, but that was several years ago. I paid ~ $300 for it, but again, that was several years ago.

Prices will be lower now...

I have found that the higher power alts don't like to be reved as high. If you like to go well over 6000rpm, then stick with something a little lower on the output scale.
Just my experience though...

depending on what caliber stereo your going to go with, id say a 130 amp 3G unit would be more than enough. unless your going to have over 2000 watts of power for a stereo or a whole bunch of lights, the 130 amp will do just fine. i am about to upgrade to a 130 amp before i put my stereo in. itll all be powered by a 2400 watt concept amp and the stereo will have a seperate battery but the 130 is about the smallest i should prolly go. just to kind of give you an idea.

I am not planning on going super high wattage and infact I am looking at the alpine PDX line due to its efficiency as well as small footprint. I do not how ever like the price of them so I am waiting till march when they offer accomodations(the REAL benifit of working in car audio).

I was also planning on using this with some underdrive pullies as well so hopefully that will help it at higher RPM's although I am not in that range too much either way.
