I don't know if that is true but in my 1981 cobra, I have a 5.0 with gear driven timing. I makes more of a whining noise that sounds like a charger.

+1 a gear driven timing set will give you the sound of a blower, real close actually. A lot of people love them, personally if my car is gonna whine like it's blown it better be blown.
