how??? it seems that i wont be able to get the screws all the way out without doing it.

It's doable but it does suck. I did mine in December. You need to buy a ratchet wrench so that you have enough clearance under the console for the bolt to rise. It's also finicky when you go to put them back in after you install the new shifter, but at least you don't have to take the dash apart.
