It probly means its set too high. I set mine up high, it smoked, i lowered it, was fine, raised it again and went back and forth till it was fine. Never pinged, but smoked.

ok but wtf do i do about the idle? i cant get it to get in time at all and hold a constant idle... it jumps all over the place no matter what 10*, 0*, and everything else imaginable.

hmm you might have skipped a tooth when removing the distributor.. maybe. i would mess with that as your last resort.

i doubt a vac leak... we hooked everything up just as it came off, and searched and found no loose anything laying around.

i just cant get it to idle at all. its like preloading i wanna call it, surges up and down, and by looking at the plugs, and smoke its running rich. never had these probs before, but now that we have it all back together its doin it...

If your car is SD check the vac line to the MAP sensor. When I put the intake on my 88 when I had it I knocked the vac line off the MAP sensor. It ran like **** and very rich. Took me awhile to find it cause I knew I had put it back on. Good Luck.

ok it is sd.. ill check that.

me and my dad have been doin this. and our best guess is maybe when we put the distrubutor back on , we were off by a tooth on the gear. so tm were gonna take the distuributer out, find tdc, and basically start from scratch w. the timing. get it to 10* n if its still bein retarded start looking for vac problems...

ORIGINAL: dimebag

im in the middle of trying to time my car, where the **** is the spout connector?

and how do u guys go about timing your motors? not advancing it? just setting the timing

again, im doing this right now, so thx for the quick answers
come on guys, we all know whats wrong, here. the distributor has been removed and NOW the timing is off.

NO spout connector has a bolt , its the small gray plug on dizzy wiring harness.

if you dont have a timing light, pull the grey spout out while car running, loosen the 13mm bolt for dizzy with swivel socket and long extension, set timing to your idle sounds normal

just bumpin this up again, see if i can get any other ideas

were prty sure when we put the distuributor in it was put in off one tooth in one direction. i hope that it any way... so tn after work im just gonna start from square one, find tdc, etc etc etc.

hopefully thats it, i looked and see no vac lines un hooked or anything.
