Need some schooling on ignition/distributors
Alright, I know nowhere near what I should about these two (aka nothing at all), so lots of questions coming up...
First of all, distributors and ignition systems: What is the benefit of an aftermarket dist, better spark? Also, an EFI distributor will work with a carbed engine and vice versa, correct? I've heard that Mallory and Crane are pretty good, and that MSD's buzz too much.
As far as ignition, I don't know anything. What's the difference between the stock A9L and the A9P, and how do I tell which one I have? What then is the 6AL, and what else is there out there? How should I choose one? Finally, it's been recommended to me not to go near 18* timing even on premium with the stock ignition, any logic to this?
