What should i be using for a carb on my new engine
I recently built up a 302 and was thinking of making it injected but decided to go with a carb set up until i s/c it, The engine started off as a 302gt40 crate engine with the aluminum x heads on it......i changed everything around on it and now it has a comp cams xfi cam, forged pistons, Dart Pro 195 heads, all ARP studs etc, 1.7 RR, lower end girldle, and the list goes on.I was told this set up should make around 400hp before i s/c it and would pull to 7,200 rpm. I was just curious as to what you guys would recommend for a intake and carb on this set up. Any help or input would be great thanks

i dunno, edelbrock rpm pkg on a 302 and 9.1 comp 1 5/8 headers and made 367 hp thats there pkg hp hci flat tappet set up...now they have a roller set up too..and 190cc heads too up from the 170cc head...id say a 750 if ya have good comp..on those heads...maybe a 670 holley avenger...for street//edelbrock 750 strip/650 avs edelbrock on a 9-10 comp for street..what is ya vol efficiency of motor..

I think the 195's would hurt the performance on a 302.

A 750 is too much carb, a 302 requires less carb then other engines. A holley 650 would be plenty.

get an edelbrock rpm air gap intake manifold and a 650 double pumper carb from holley do not go with edelbrock for the carb its just a nice looking quadrajet in other words a big peice of crap

i have swaped and dynoed a motor with a holley and a edelbrock same cfm and gained just 3 hp with holley..there both good carbs...edelbrock calls for a 750 for strip on arpm hci set up and a 600 for street...i have seen alotta 750 holley on a 302 and did fine..they were 10.5 and up comp motors but still...edelbrocks are much easier to work on..not as tempermental...good to learn about nd learn how to tune and jet size...
