Speedometer adapter for 3.73 gears
I just bought an 88GT and I want to put 3.73 gears in the rear end. I was wondering who sells an adapter for the speedometer. I live on an Army base, and the MPs here are a-holes and will pull you over for 3 mph over the posted speed limit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there is no adapter. You need to see what color your speedo drive gear is (located on tranny output shaft). Check the tech stickies to find out which gear you need and how to install it.

Well your right , but I'm not sure what year or model tranny he has, mines a '90 AOD w/ 3.73's and it's 23 tooth so i got it stuck in my head! [8D]If it's a pre '89 auto or manual its a 21 tooth, if it's a '90 or newer AOD, it's 23 tooth and if its a '90 or newer 5 spd, he'll need to swap the drive gear to make the numberswork out perfect.Either way the 3.73's mean:

ORIGINAL: redneckstang
it is actually located on the tail shaft housing
it is actually located on the tail shaft housing
That's where the speedo driven gear is....the drive gear is on the output shaft, which is inside the tail shaft housing. The driven gear (17-23 teeth) is determined by the 6, 7, or 8 tooth drive gear on the output (or tail) shaft.
Is the T5 in your stang the stocker or has it been replaced? You can see the drive gear w/ a flashlight when you pull out the speedo housing....
