Default Gear ratio and traction lock rebuild...

My rt passenger tire only spins at a burnout telling me my traction lock needs to be rebuild. I can pick up the rebuild kit at Jeg's but while the mechanics are in the differential, they can go ahead and slap in a higher gear. But what gear to get? What is the stock size gears on these 93 GT 5spd manuals? I just want to get a little bit more pick up and go.

There were a few gear ratio's that could be in your car. Check your door sticker for ax code. What letter does it have? Anyway, size depends. Depends on what your future goals are with the car, mods, dd or weekend car, drag car or street car, etc.

If it were a weekend cruiser and a 5spd and you didnt plan on crazy hp I personally would go with 4.10's.... thats just me. Alot of guys will tell you that 3.73's are a good all around gear which they are but I like steeper gears. Some will even say 3.55's but I dont see the point in that. lol Just my .02

As far as gears, from reading the different threads about gears, I may go with the 3.55's as opposed to the 3.73's to help me launch my car off from a red light faster and also to help gas mileage. I'm not going to the track. I am just using the car as a daily driver. Tell me how much am I looking at to rebuild the traction-lock and install a 3.55 gear? How much also to have the speedometer re-calibrated?

putting the clutchs and steels in your trac-loc is easy do it your self , the shop will charge more for doing it , even though they have to take them out anyway for the gear change. i think 300 would be a price to pay for a gear change if they stand behind what they do.

i have 4.10's for the second time and will use nothing less unless i am blower/turbo car

i turn 3000 rpms at 80 mph, and get 21.25 mpg on the freeway w/ the ac blowing

bone stock i can 60' 1.69

unless your carrier is broken, you shouldn't payany more than $600 total for everything including labor, gear and install kit.

your ax code on the door will be a m=2.73 or a z=3.08 aod's can have e=3.27 as well but not 5-speeds

every bump of a full gearset (not including 3.90's) will raise rpm at any given speed about 250 rpms roughly

so if your 3.08's currently , going to 3.55 will make your car feel like it's at 2500 rpm instead of 2000 rpm get it ? your in a higher rpm band.

going from 2.73 to 4.10 is about a 1000 rpm jump , but you'll pull stumps , you will not yank the tires off the ground w/out 4.10's unless you break 350 hp (maybe if your really light but i doubt it)

If you plan on keeping the car I would look into a detroit locker. The traction lock will begin to wear as soon as you get it rebuilt. A few nasty burnouts and the clutches will be gone. A detroit locker will never wear. They run about $600 for the 8.8" rear end..

I have a KB blower and 3.55s. Lots of fun.

clutches dont wear as fast as you think they do. my rear has 157k original miles on it and it still leaves nice twin strips
