My clutch is no stiffer then its supposed to be. Your going to have to get under that car and make sure the clutch fork has about 1/8 of an inch of play. It could be inproperly adjusted and the clutch will still feel normal.

Looks like you have a new clutch cable there. If so, did you run cable grease through it first? I bet that is why it is so stiff.
The grease comes in a spray can (any auto parts store should carry it)and is a very thin grease. Hold the cable up vertical and spray into the top. Then push/pull the cable through its housing. Continue until the cable coming out the bottom of the housing is wet. Your clutch will be nice and smooth.

As for the rubber grommet:
I just put a new clutch cable and firewall adjuster in the '86. Don't use the rubber grommet - the firewall adjuster takes its place between the firewall and the clutch cable.

ditch the ruber and cut the little **** off around the cable and it should silde right on
