when i did my conversion i used a h.e.i distributer for a ford. a 670 holley avenger, i left the fuel pump in the tank a got a aftermarket relay and a mallory bypass regultor set all the way down and i have about 9 psi at the carb all day long.

If the '87 is still a SD system.....you will need to convert it to MAF.....that cam setup will not work well in a speed density system.

you live in florida right? a carb is perfect for a daily driver down there you dont have any huge temp changes in the winter like we do up here in jersey. i drove my 84 carbed as a daily driver for 3 years snow rain didnt matter never had a problem always started on cold mornings before school 14* out always startednever had to tune the carb had it done once and its never been touched since
