Exhaust gas is directed to a turbine inside the turbo, the turbine shaft spins a compressor fan which is placed inline with the intake raising pressure of intake charge

to avoid a lenghty post in this thread.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/turbo.htm

and this one is the difference between turbo and supercharger on a cars engine...

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question122.htm

from personall experience with a me owning a turbo supra before i love turbo because they use exhaust which is going to come out of the engine anyway to make their power.... but are a pain sometimes.... for the stang i am going to supercharge it..... but either way you wont go wrong...
