I have a 2001 GTI VR6 and have driven 5.0 mustangs in the past. they are fairly close as far as fast, but the gtihandles like it is on rails plus get 30+ mpg on the highway. they are extreemly expensive to make faster. one thing that the mustang has inn its favor is the rear wheel drive. you can have all sorts of fun thata gti can only dream about!!! over all the gti is a much nicer car. mine is a MKIV 12 valve vr6 (174 horse)they went t a 24 valve (200 horse)in 2002.5. the MKIII's (12 valve) are actually fater than the 24valve MKIV'ssince they are lighter and probably geared a bit differently.
i get 28mpg so its not that much better on mileage

Here's a good site for comparing stock 0-60 & 1/4 mile times: http://www.albeedigital.com/supercou...0-60times.html

i raced one on a short curve. a vr6, the one with 200hp from factory with intake and exhaust in both our cars and i had bald tires
i was on the outside of the curve and we were neck and neck, if it was straight and the road was longer the pony would win

WhenI had my 89 notchI got about 23 mpg with a vortech supercharger. That was my average for the 2800 mile drive from San Diego, Ca to Harrisonburg, Va

well considering i used to own a vw, and was into the mods and car scene, a vr6 will very little work done to it has the potential to walk on a mustang. My neighbor has a vr6 corrado and he can walk all over mustangs and he has is a CAI, clutch, cams, cat-backexhaust,and maybe port and polish. They are expensive as hell to mod, and i had a 4 cylinder 2.0 and it was still expensive to get anything performance wise for it, but i sold it because the mustang aftermarket products are less expensive and because it is rear wheel drive and i go that V8 itch.

ok i actually raced my buddys vr6 gti the otherday on the highway. we started from about 30ish mph. i was in 2nd so i didnt start in powerband... he got the jump up to where is rear tire was and where my front tire was. we stayed completely even until i guess he missed 4th. it was a really good race. and i believe his is stock and mine just has full exhaust. i prob could have taken him if i started in first or powerband... but not by much

i have a 95 5.0 and my first race was against a 98 Jetta Vr6 with a intake and exhaust. My car was stock and there was never a chance for him to win. Oh and we both were five speed.

If its a new vr6 golf or something you might have some trouble.
