Default mustang vs VR6

hey guys, i posted up a little while ago about buying a 1987 mustang gt. The car seems pretty decent, but i've been talking to a few people and they say a vw golf vr6 will kill that mustang. So what will win in a race vr6 or mustang?

You should have no problems with a vr6 as long as its stock

if its the 8v one then dont even worry about it. if its the 24v vr6 then it may be a problem. What are your mods?

If your ever going to go with a turbo setup a VR6 block will probably be stronger I've seen them run 18-20psi with a stock block. However for N/A power the 5.0 is the way to go

how much money u got to spend, the 5.0 will be cheaper to make faster, plus they are faster stock, but the vr6 has better gas and the insurance is lower

a vr6 block can easily handle over 600 hp because it was originally designed to be a diesel. but if both cars were stock a 5.0 would take it

I have a 2001 GTI VR6 and have driven 5.0 mustangs in the past. they are fairly close as far as fast, but the gtihandles like it is on rails plus get 30+ mpg on the highway. they are extreemly expensive to make faster. one thing that the mustang has inn its favor is the rear wheel drive. you can have all sorts of fun thata gti can only dream about!!! over all the gti is a much nicer car. mine is a MKIV 12 valve vr6 (174 horse)they went t a 24 valve (200 horse)in 2002.5. the MKIII's (12 valve) are actually fater than the 24valve MKIV'ssince they are lighter and probably geared a bit differently.
