Default Strange rearend

I plan(ned) on doing mostly suspension work to my car first, then motor way later. Is it a bad idea to look into saving for the complete 9" strange rearend? I mean i want 5lug axles, but i have the gears already, and figure why not do the entire rearend (from housing and axles, everything is assambled for 2300 bucks. And, also separately order all control arms, shock, quad shocks, springs, rotor, caliper, etc.) at the same time. But, a friend told me I should wait and do the motor first because "you need a lot to power that suspension" is he right, i planned on doing the suspension first because i know that can be put together maybe over a weekend or two, but doing a motor up the way i want it will take all winter.

No your friends wrong... do the suspension first and than move on to the motor. And unless you plan on running 700+ I wouldnt worry about the rear end.... huge waste of money. Bragging rights is all you will get w/ a 9". But than people might laugh at you because its very uneccesary. Its like having 42lb injectors on a stock motor........ its just not necessary lol

we need to make this a sticky cause lately everyone is asking this, the 9 is for a big block period, the 8.8 will suffice for just about everything else unless u have a 600 rwhp or more motor than u might want a 9

No clue who they were... Im not sure if Im right or not but I just remember someone saying that, dont know if its true or not so dont quote me on that. But if you have enough $$ to make 800 ponies a 9" obviously isnt gonna break the bank

well i didnt necessarily mean the size, i am definetly not after bragging rights, just performance. I really want to just do a 331 stroker, cammed, afr185, trickflow, full exhaust, and maf upgrade along with dual cooling fans, other **** also. Im hoping around 400rwhp that will get me, maybe im wrong. I just for now figure that doing the suspension how i will want it for AFTER that motor is done makes since, and an upgraded rearend would be what i want. But, if you're telling me to leave the housing alone, ok that makes since. Should i just stick with control arms, and shocks, etc. i have an alum. driveshaft now...

Also, probably going to put in a newer transmission at some point....whenever the stock T-5 fails id rather put in a WC or something, maybe TKO...not too familiar with transmissions and thats a LOOONG ways away

Stick with the 8.8.... and 8.8 will live for 300 years with 400rwhp behind it... you should consider upgrading axles, etc. though for sure if you are planning on 400rwhp.

And as for the rear suspension it depends on how deep you want to get into it... you can just do your u/l control arms & shocks and call it a day or you can go all out and go with banhard bar setup, torque arm setup, etc.
