This is an 88 with 12" wide wheels front and back.
So it can be done. I can only imagine that it wont be easy (1st prise for understatement of the century!) but then they do say that nothing worthwhile ever is!

That car is definitely mini tubbed and has a ton of $$ in suspension modifications in the front and rear. Also look at the fender flare front and rear, they are both heavily modified as well.

RE: 18x12
One reason those wheels fit that car is because it has what appears to be a 3" wide body kit on the car, adding 3" to each side. If you look around enough, youll find the kits, but they take some serious work to get on the car.
Personally, i would go with 9" wheels, tires will be affordable, and easier to come by, and you can upgrade as your skill gets better. Having a wildly built car doesnt help when learning to drive, it can actually become a crutch.
