Default Speedo conversion

A friend of mine has an 88LX Notch, I have an 88GT Hatch. I've noticed that he has a 140mph speedo, but I only have an 88mph. He told me that his was a police interceptor. Is there any way I can convert mine? If there was one thing I hated about the 80s, it was the 85 MPH speedo's.

Yes you can look for one out of a 89 or 88 that has a 140 and it should just be a plug and play type of deal.

yah, you have to swap the whole piece of the cluster. the cluster has 4 individual sections, the speedo is 1 piece by itself. once you get the cluster out, take the plastic cover off and you can pull it right out. if you wanna be slick about it, you can roll the odometer back or forward to wherever yours was, and not mention it, but if the odo changes, you should report it to the insurance company and they'll give you some documentation and maybe some stickers to show that the odo was changed.
