No question you guys make good points, I guess it's all in what you want for your car. I personally think the sleeper look is over rated, nobody bought a Mustang to have the sleeper look, at least i dont think. When I hear sleeper i think a civic with a turbo, not a Mustang.
I dont think its all hype. These companies have proven themselves by making good cylinder heads. More flow doesnt always mean more HP, and yes ported GT40s might be cheaper but I dont think that's a good reason for people to rip on aluminum heads. I'd be surprised if thumper's ported GT40s were as nice as the AFR milling, they are so mint. Does anyone have any ET times from a ported GT40 car? I'd be interested to see some times.

Mac also makes a header that fits the gt 40 p. And yea the p started halfway through 97 and can also be identified by the 4 bars at the end instead of the previous 3 bars the reg gt 40 had. My question is are the "p" heads smog passable and what all is involved in getting them to pass. Will all the smog suff bolt right up? And will it all bolt right up to the reg gt 40? I have read up and Cant determine exactly what smog stuff will and will not fit right up on either. I have heard the p is passable but then also heard that there is a tube that the thermactor has and no hole for it in the p heads. Can anyone clear this up for me? Anyone know anyone that has dealt with either set of heads and know about the emmissions part? Thanx

RE: how good are gt-40s
as long as the gt40 heads have the theaded hole in the back of them for your air pump tube your good to go... as for thumpers work, he's top notch... i was very happy with mine... the only thing i can see as a plus side of getting an aluminum head is the weight savings. if i was building an all out drag car then hell yeah aluminum is the way to go (you can still have them ported too) but for a mild street car that will not see track use, ported gt40s are a great alternative. shoot you can even get gt40p's ported and drilled for the emissions tube (keep that in mind). in the end it's your money and your decision.
