main girdle
instead of buying an expensive 4 bolt main block would putting a main girdle on the stock block be good for a all forged 347 kit and a 200 shot?

RE: main girdle
It wont hurt, but will never be as strong as the 4 bolt mains. that should be ok for a little while
|
RE: main girdle
how strong are the girdles?
|
RE: main girdle
I have one on my 306, I have about 400 rwhp + 150 shot of dope. How many ponies are you gonna have on motor with the 347?

RE: main girdle
i'd also suggest a valley girdle because thats where the thing is gonna split on you. they will help you out some but dont rely on the girdles on keeping it all together if u plan on making mondo power.

RE: main girdle
not sure on how many...ill be running the 347 w/ an x303 cam, gt40 heads, gt40 U/L, 1.6 rollers

RE: main girdle
sorr, a girdle isnt going to make your block any stronger

RE: main girdle
save your money on the girdle and get you a new block, b/c once you build that 347 like i did the first time, i wanted more,, good thing my rings didnt seat so i had to pull it out and bought a new dart iron eagle, that should hold everything im going to put to it,, Turbo 347 here i come!!!

RE: main girdle
girdle's dont strengthen the block, they help stablize the crank in high rpm engines.
all they do when the block comes apart is keep everything in a nice pile valley girdles are useless also, you already have a massive valley girdle called the lower intake manifold, and even it cant keep an overpowered 302 together. pretty much on any "stock" block you can stroke it or you can boost/spray it try and do both and your asking for trouble. |
