advise for 1rst time on 1/4 mile?
I am going to the track tomorrow night to run my 94 gt for the first time. By first time I mean first time ever on the 1/4 mile. I have done my share of stoplight drags here and there when the time was right but never been on the track. Any advise for a newb to hopefully keep me from lookin like one. I think I remember the first rule of DON'T WRECK, but any other good advise? I just put new wheels and tires on it(17 x 10.5)and I know they are not the greatest(sumitomo htr's) but what would be the best air pressure for them? Would you recommend a good burn out or just a quick one? the tires still have the nubs on them at this point.
At this point the car is completely stock with the air silencer and all, mom kept her in good shape! Looking forward to putting the go fast parts on her to see how much I can improve my time.

RE: advise for 1rst time on 1/4 mile?
auto or 5 speed?
either way..
1. keep normal tire preasure in street tires, lowering it hurts your traction
2. no burn out. you can scrape them, like on your way to staging but do not set in the water box and spin away...its bad for street tires and hurts your traction
3. prestage.... and wait for the other guy to prestage
4. full stage(both sets of little lights up top are now lit)
5. 1st yellow, 2nd yellow, when you see the 3rd yellow GO!. if you see green your late.
6. however on test and tune your r/t doesnt matter anyway, so dont stress about that.
7. assuming its a stick...i wouldnt try to launch as much as id try to take off quickly... just do as you do at a light, as quickly as possible. once the clutch is all the way out give it hell, try not to spin
8. shift outa 1st at around 5500, but this is diff for each car, hopefully youknow your car well enough to no where exactly to shift each gear..
9. throw 2nd hard, and keep on it thru third and 4th, if you hit it.
10. dont stop at the time board(shows your et)... keep going thru the traps...
i think thats about it... also make sure you HAVE FUN, and its your 1st time, dont expect great times... if you get a 15.0 or better your 1st night out, be proud of yourself... but know... it has more in it. ultimitly if you stay stock and can drive great i think youll see a 14.5-14.7.<if its stick

RE: advise for 1rst time on 1/4 mile?
Dimebag hit it pretty much right on, trust his advice Defintiely prepare to be disappointed. Before you stage you might want to give your tires a quick spin just to get the crap off em, but dont go thru the water and smoke em.

Another tip:
Walk up to the trees and watch a few cars run, Make sure you know where the start line is. I know this sounds stupid but i've seen people pull past them or not pull up far enough their first time. It's really embarrasing.
