Default 83 belhousing issue.

i dropped a 351w in my mustang gt with the stock belhousing/tranny and a 10.5 cobra clutch kit and 28oz flywheel. the motor was a dud(although we had it running for a while(crack in the block causing coolant in the oil))so we pulled it out (covered by warrenty). we got the new motor built and stuff but theres a problem, we tookthe tranny off theold motorto find a deep groove from the clutch cut into the bel housing(we heard it while the car was running with the old motor). Anyone have an idea????

Count the teeth on the flywheel. There's probably 164 teeth if it's hitting the bellhousing and it should have 157. You'll have to specifically look for a 157 tooth flywheel with 28 oz balance that will accommodate a 10.5" clutch with metric thread holes for the pressure plate - not all 157 tooth flywheels will accommodate a 10.5" clutch. Good luck!

OR he could just get a 86-93 bellhousing, which is large enough inside to accomidate the 10.5" flywheel

I should have been clearer in my description. Actually the pressure plate rubs on the bellhousing and not the flywheel. The car originally had a 10" clutch and we upgraded it to a 10.5" king cobra clutchwith a 157 tooth metric bolt 28oz flywheel. Was the 86 or later bellhousing changed for the larger clutch? This may be why I am having a problem.

whoa totally wrong... 351w's have always used a 28oz imbalance

it was ONLY the 5.0HO that swapped to a 50oz imbalance
