emission controls

goodluck, got the code 44 myself... not much info other than it is the emission control system (aka AIR THERMACTOR SYSTEM in fords words)

is ur car running rich?
we have posted a solution to your problem many times... maybe youll pay attention this time.

Code 44 is caused by a bad check valve in the air pump system.... you know that thing thats in the hoses attached to the pump... thats what has gone bad in your car.

I'd take a picture of mine, but I threw it away about 6 months ago

Id have to look up how our system is exactly laid out to give you all your possible scenarios. I have my junk removed andcan't remember the placement of the valves, but all you need is a vacuum pump and a voltmeter to figure it out. It could be electrical, it could be a component like a diverter valve but its not too difficult to tackle. I recommend checking for online copies of the factory service manual. There is somone on here with a link to where you can find it, or someone has it on a .PDF. I have the paper copy and can fax stuff at a last resort.

I ended up getting some documented info on how to check the entire system, and all I need are the tools that shaner mentioned. I'll be sure to check the check valve first though.
